The goal when you’re playing blackjack is to be closer to 21 then the dealer without going over. If you go over 21 then your hand is bust and you automatically lose your bet. It’s also important to note that you’re only playing against the dealer and not the other players on the table.

The game is played with a full fifty two card deck and no cards are wild as you can tell above from the hand rankings listed. The dealer starts each hand by dealing two cards to every player face up and also two cards to themselves with one face up and one down. Starting with the player to the left of the dealer players will have certain options to improve there hand or keep it the same.
The most common plays you’ll make when you play blackjack are hit and stay. When you hit you’re asking the dealer for another card to be dealt to you and when you stay you’re asking the dealer for no more cards and to freeze your hand where it is. You can also double down, but only on your first move and not afterwards. Doubling down means you would like to double your bet and take one more card only to improve your hand. Players can also split pairs which simply allow you to split your pairs into two hands and play them both, but you will need to put in another bet equivalent to your initial bet.
The dealer have set rules in place for the way they need to play there hand and they have absolutely no say in how to play the hand. Most casinos use the stay on 17 rule which means dealers will stay when they have 17 or higher. If they have 16 or lower then they will continue to hit until they have 17+.
What you ideally want to be dealt is a natural blackjack which is when you get dealt an ace and a card valued at ten. These two cards would make 21 and this is a natural and usually pays 3/2. If you get a natural blackjack you automatically win the hand and you get your money paid right away.
There is also an insurance bet, but I would stay away from this bet as much as possible because it typically costs you more money then it makes you. The insurance bet is when the dealer has an ace as his face up card and you think the dealer will get a natural blackjack. By betting the insurance bet if the dealer does have a blackjack you win 2:1 on the amount you bet.
